The Story

This historical building, brimming with creative energy, is a magical space filled with symbolic objects and extraordinary stories.

For over five years, Meike Ziegler (designer / architect / artist), in collaboration with her partner Paul Spies and a wonderful team of Polish and German builders worked hard to turn an old Barn into the magical space that Dom Wilka is today.

Her aim was not only to build a beautiful house, but to co-create. 23 people, with various backgrounds, worked on Dom Wilka over the years. They succeeded in building this magical place, overcoming difficulties caused by language barriers, cultural differences and diverse political and religious opinions. This reflects Meike’s trust and belief in human connection.

Most of Dom Wilka was created sustainably and resourcefully - using existing materials such as old ceiling-wood, bricks and steel from the building itself. Doors, floors and radiators are re-used from other historical sites. The furniture was mainly created by hand on the spot.

Inspired by the space, seasonal light, and the building process itself, Meike interwove some unique rituals into the building. Stepping through the doors of Dom Wilka means stepping into a different world composed of beautiful stories that inspire to create, overcome borders, and challenge oneself.

At it's heart, it is a symphony of Meike, her work, and the people she has brought together.

The walls whisper, ceilings reflect, floors breathe.

In Dom Wilka dreams want to become tangible.
